Dawson Area Development is available to assist businesses in applying for grants. 


DAD compiled the following list of grants with the intention of making it easy for businesses to find grants with the most relevance to their goals. 

Worker Training Grant

  • Grant covers/reimburses almost everything related to a training: tuition/fees, classroom materials/books, rental costs, pre/post-training participant costs, curriculum design, wages/salaries of instructors, specialized facility/equipment
  • The program is intended to add to, not replace, training dollars equal to what you spent last year, and the year before (two-year average).
  • The program will not reimburse: past training costs incurred prior to application, mandatory or required training, constructing buildings, purchasing equipment or paying your salary or employees' wages or salaries.
  • Encourages development in new industries and small business entrepreneurial training
  • Must be current on all combined taxes and quarterly wage reports

Customized Job Training

  • Similar to the worker training grant
  • Mostly for manufacturing, processing, warehousing, distribution, and headquarters operations. Not for retail in a local market. 

Developing Youth Talent Initiative

  • Engage 7/8th grade students in STEM (Manufacturing, IT, Healthcare, and Engineering) with hands-on career exploration
  • Businesses (primarily for-profit, though certain non-profits are eligible) partner with schools.

Intern Nebraska

  • Business cannot be a government entity; for-profit and non-profits are eligible
  • Students must be a senior (or higher) at an institution of higher education. 
  • Reimburses up to $3,500-$5,000 of the intern’s wages

Prototype Grant

  • Up to $150,000 for a project
  • Must be businesses operating in Nebraska that can provide a minimum of 50% (2:1) of the grant request as matching funds. Value-added agriculture projects require a match of 25% (4:1).
  • Eligible businesses must have a cap of 500 employees, and are non-retail oriented
  • Rolling applications until funds are exhausted for the fiscal year.

State Trade Extension Program (STEP) 

  • Eligible applicants are small businesses at least one year old, that process, manufacture, and/or distribute a product/provide an exportable service. 
  • The goal of the grant is to increase the number of small businesses in Nebraska that are exporting and to increase the value of exports for those small businesses that are currently exporting. 
  • Reimburses participant companies for approved activities associated with international marketing initiatives for Eligible Small Business Concerns (ESBCs) across Nebraska.
  • Provides grant money for Domestic/International Trade Shows/International Sales Trips, participation in US Department of Commerce Business Matchmaking Programs, marketing media design and translation services, website development and optimization, 3rd party product compliance testing, and export training
  • The grant extends from September 30, 2020, through September 29, 2022.  All activities must be approved, completed, and expenses paid before September 29, 2022.

  • This organization offers training, marketing, and technical assistance for local entrepreneurs.
